This Week in Award Travel

Three routes caught my eye this week, and one of them is a genuine standout. Qatar Airways is sitting on some rare off-peak award space this August - and the pricing is the kind that makes you stop scrolling and actually check your points balance.

We've also got Hyatt sweetening the deal on two Kyoto and Maldives properties at values that are honestly hard to ignore. Stick around for the full hotel section - it's a good one this week.

Miles & Points Trivia

Before we get into the deals - here's your trivia question for this week. Answer is at the bottom of the newsletter!

Qatar Airways is a member of which airline alliance - and which frequent flyer program lets you book Qatar awards at the rates featured in today's newsletter?

  • A) Oneworld - and you book through British Airways Avios

  • B) Star Alliance - and you book through United MileagePlus

  • C) Oneworld - and you book through Qatar Privilege Club

  • D) SkyTeam - and you book through Flying Blue

The answer is waiting for you near the bottom of today's newsletter - keep scrolling!

🚨 Deal of the Week: Qatar Airways Business Class from Doha to London

Route: Doha (DOH) to London (LHR/LGW) on Qatar Airways - Business Class (QSuite)

Points cost: Just 42,500 Qatar Privilege Club Avios one-way at off-peak pricing

Available dates: Aug 4 (Tuesday) and Aug 5 (Wednesday) - low availability, so move fast

Value: Qatar QSuite Business Class tickets on this route regularly retail for $1,800-$2,500+. At 42,500 points, you're looking at roughly 4.2-5.9 cents per point in value depending on the cash fare you're displacing. That's exceptional for a redemption of this type.

Why it's special: Qatar QSuite is consistently rated one of the best business class products in the sky - double beds, sliding privacy doors, and genuinely world-class catering. Off-peak Privilege Club pricing at 42,500 points one-way is as good as it gets on this route. The standard peak rate jumps to 55,000, so you're saving 12,500 points just by targeting these early August dates.

Availability is low - there are only a couple of seats showing on Aug 4 and Aug 5. If either of those dates work for you, don't sit on this.

How to book: Search and book directly through Qatar Airways Privilege Club. You can also book Qatar Business Class through British Airways Avios as a Oneworld partner - worth comparing rates on both programs before you transfer.

✈️ Economy Deals: Departing from the Middle East

All of this week's economy availability is coming out of Doha on Qatar Airways, with off-peak Privilege Club pricing across the board. Here's what's showing:

Doha to London - Economy Class

  • 20,000 Privilege Club Avios one-way (off-peak rate, saves 10,000 vs peak)

  • Available: Aug 1 (Saturday), Aug 2 (Sunday), Aug 4 (Tuesday), Aug 5 (Wednesday)

  • Availability: Low - a handful of seats across these dates

  • Standard peak rate: 30,000 points

Doha to New York - Economy Class

  • 35,000 Privilege Club Avios one-way (off-peak rate)

  • Available: Aug 1 (Saturday), Aug 2 (Sunday), Aug 3 (Monday)

  • Availability: Low - act quickly on these early August weekend dates

  • Standard peak rate: 50,000 points

Doha to Tokyo - Economy Class

  • 30,000 Privilege Club Avios one-way (off-peak rate)

  • Available: Aug 2 (Sunday) through Aug 6 (Thursday) - five consecutive days

  • Availability: High - this is the most space showing across all routes this week

  • Standard peak rate: 42,500 points

The Doha-Tokyo route is the standout economy pick purely on availability - five consecutive days of space at off-peak pricing is rare. If you're based in Qatar or connecting through Doha, this is worth a serious look.

✈️ Economy Deals: Departing from North America

New York to Doha - Economy Class

  • 35,000 Privilege Club Avios one-way (off-peak rate)

  • Available: Aug 1 (Saturday) through Aug 5 (Wednesday) - five dates with space

  • Availability: High - good availability across the window

  • Standard peak rate: 50,000 points - you're saving 15,000 points here

If you've been thinking about a trip to the Middle East, this is a solid jumping-off point. Doha is an easy hub for onward connections to Africa, South Asia, and the wider Gulf region. And sometimes cash beats points on transatlantic fares - Friday Flight Deals has been finding some competitive cash fares to Europe lately if you want to compare your options.

🏨 Featured Hotel Redemption: Hyatt Maldives Sneak Peek

This week's hotel redemptions are genuinely some of the best value I've seen in a while. Here's a quick taste before we get to the full list in the premium section:

Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa - Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Maldives

  • ~30,000 World of Hyatt points per night

  • Value: 10.8 cents per point - one of the best hotel redemptions in the Hyatt portfolio

  • Cash rates at this property regularly top $3,000+ per night in peak season

  • Book 5 nights, pay points for 4 - the 5th night free benefit stacks beautifully here

10.8 cents per point is the kind of value that genuinely justifies hoarding Hyatt points. Full hotel redemptions - including Kyoto properties, Hawaii resorts, and more - are in the premium section below.
