This Week in Award Travel
Three routes caught my eye this week, and one of them is a genuine standout. If you've been sitting on a pile of Avios wondering when to pull the trigger on a transatlantic trip, this week might be the moment.
We've got solid Business Class availability on multiple London departures, a handful of off-peak economy deals for those who want to stretch their points further, and some of the best hotel redemption values I've seen in a while - including a Hyatt property that's valuing out at over 8 cents per point. More on that below.
Before we get into the deals, a quick heads up for anyone with travel plans through Italy next week - the air traffic controller strike on May 11 is serious. Miles & Points Daily has been tracking the disruption closely, so head there if you need the latest updates.
Miles & Points Trivia
Let's kick things off with a quick question tied to this week's content:
Which hotel program is offering the best cents-per-point value in this week's featured redemptions?
A) Marriott Bonvoy - JW Marriott Miami Turnberry (8.3cpp)
B) Hyatt - Grand Hyatt Baha Mar (8.5cpp)
C) Hilton Honors - Waldorf Astoria Maldives (2.7cpp)
D) IHG One Rewards - Six Senses Shaharut (3.1cpp)
The answer is at the bottom of today's newsletter... keep scrolling!
🚨 Deal of the Week: London to Chicago Business Class for 88,000 Avios
Route: London (LHR) to Chicago (ORD) on British Airways - Business Class
Points required: 88,000 Avios one-way (off-peak pricing)
Available dates: Jun 2, 3, 4, 5 (early June, weekdays) and Jun 8 - availability is HIGH across all these dates, which is rare.
Why it's the deal of the week: High availability on a transatlantic Business Class route at off-peak Avios pricing is not something you see every day. British Airways Club World on LHR-ORD is a flat-bed product with direct aisle access, and at 88,000 Avios you're squeezing real value out of every point.
But here's where it gets even better. The Chase Ultimate Rewards to Marriott Bonvoy transfer bonus of 65% is live until May 15 - while that won't directly help you book Avios, it's worth noting for hotel stays at your destination. More importantly, if you're topping up Avios via a transfer, check your current balances now before the best dates go.
How to book: Search on the British Airways Executive Club website using your Avios balance. If you need to top up, Amex Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Citi ThankYou all transfer to Avios at 1:1.
Peak rate comparison: Peak pricing on this route is 99,000 Avios - so you're saving 11,000 Avios by booking these early June dates. That's meaningful.
Economy Deals: Departing from Europe (London)
All economy deals below are bookable with Avios via British Airways Executive Club. Availability and pricing current as of today.
✈️ London to Chicago (Economy)
LHR to ORD | 27,500 Avios one-way (off-peak) | Available: Jun 8, 9, 15, 16, 17 | Availability: Medium
A strong off-peak rate for a mid-June transatlantic economy ticket. If you're flexible on the exact date, there's a good spread of options through the third week of June.
✈️ London to Boston (Economy)
LHR to BOS | 27,500 Avios one-way (off-peak) | Available: Jun 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 | Availability: Medium
Same rate as Chicago but with a full week of consecutive availability right at the start of June. Great option if you're planning a US East Coast trip and want to keep costs down.
✈️ London to Los Angeles (Economy)
LHR to LAX | 33,000 Avios one-way (off-peak) | Available: Jun 16, 17, 22, 23 (also Jun 19 at peak) | Availability: Medium
A longer haul, so the slightly higher Avios rate makes sense. Mid-June availability is solid across multiple weekdays - worth checking if LA is on your list.
✈️ London to New York (Economy)
LHR to JFK/EWR | 33,000 Avios one-way (peak pricing) | Available: Jun 19, 26, 28, 29, 30 | Availability: Medium
Note that these June dates are priced at the peak rate of 33,000 Avios (vs. the off-peak rate of 27,500). Still a reasonable spend for LHR-NYC, but if you can shift your dates earlier in June you'll save a few thousand Avios.
✈️ London to Miami (Economy)
LHR to MIA | 38,500 Avios one-way (peak pricing) | Available: Jun 6, 14, 18, 19, 20 | Availability: Medium
Peak pricing applies here given the June dates. The 18th is a Thursday and off-peak, which is worth noting - it buckets into the same 38,500 rate because the available dates fall across both pricing tiers.
✈️ London to Singapore (Economy)
LHR to SIN | 44,000 Avios one-way (off-peak) | Available: Jun 13, Jun 24 | Availability: Low
Only two dates showing, and availability is low - so if Singapore is on your radar, move quickly. The Jun 24 date is a Wednesday and looks like the safer bet.
✈️ London to Hong Kong (Economy)
LHR to HKG | 44,000 Avios one-way (peak pricing) | Available: Jun 6 only | Availability: Low
Just one date showing at this price point, and it's a Saturday at peak pricing. If Hong Kong is your destination, you might want to look at the Business Class option below - the upgrade in experience is substantial for not that many more Avios in the grand scheme.
🏨 Featured Hotel Redemptions (Teaser)
Two standout hotel redemptions this week that deserve a mention before we get to the premium section:
Grand Hyatt Baha Mar - Nassau, Bahamas
~29,000 World of Hyatt points per night | Value: 8.5 cents per point
This is genuinely exceptional value. The Grand Hyatt Baha Mar sits on Cable Beach with multiple pools, a casino, and a world-class spa. At 29,000 points per night and an 8.5cpp valuation, this is one of the best redemptions I've seen in months. Book 5 nights and the 5th night is free with Hyatt's standard benefit.
JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa - Aventura, Florida
~65,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night | Value: 8.3 cents per point
Another top-tier value play. The Turnberry is a stunning resort property just north of Miami Beach. If you're looking to combine a Miami flight redemption (see the deals above) with hotel points, this pairing makes a lot of sense. The Chase Ultimate Rewards to Marriott Bonvoy transfer bonus of 65% expires May 15 - so if you're topping up Bonvoy points, do it now.
