Welcome to This Week's Deals

Three things caught my eye scanning this week's availability - and one of them is a genuine head-scratcher in the best possible way. First Class to Chicago for 68,000 Avios in off-peak pricing? On a route that rarely surfaces at that rate? That's the kind of find that makes you drop everything and check your Avios balance.

On top of that, there's a stack of high-availability business and premium economy space opening up across North America routes for early May - which lines up perfectly with some expiring transfer bonuses you'll want to act on before April 30. More on all of that below.

Quick housekeeping: if you spotted the Virgin Atlantic Seoul news doing the rounds yesterday - Smart With Points has an excellent breakdown of what Upper Class redemptions actually look like on that new route. Worth a read if you're eyeing Asia.

Miles & Points Trivia

Let's start with a quick brain teaser tied to this week's content:

Which IHG property in Grand Cayman is currently offering the highest cents-per-point value among all hotel redemptions this week?

  • A) Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman (~1.5cpp)

  • B) Holiday Inn Resort Grand Cayman (~2.9cpp)

  • C) Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa (~7.4cpp)

  • D) They're all priced the same

The answer is down at the bottom of the newsletter - keep scrolling!

Deal of the Week: First Class to Chicago for 68,000 Avios

Route: London Heathrow to Chicago O'Hare on British Airways - First Class

Just 68,000 Avios one-way at off-peak pricing

Available: May 8 (Friday) - low availability, so move fast

Why it's special: BA First Class across the Atlantic normally prices at 80,000 Avios at peak. Getting it at off-peak (68,000) on a transatlantic route to Chicago is genuinely rare. You're talking Club Suites-era aircraft, proper lie-flat seats, and a First cabin that doesn't show up at this price point very often.

Transfer bonus angle: The Chase Ultimate Rewards to Aeroplan +20% bonus (expires April 30) doesn't directly apply here - but if you're short on Avios, the Citi ThankYou to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club +30% bonus expires today (April 18) - if you have Flying Blue or Virgin points you want to move, do it now before midnight.

How to book: Search on the British Airways website using Avios. Log into your Executive Club account, search LHR to ORD, and select First Class. Availability is showing for May 8 - it's low, so don't sit on it.

Economy Deals: Departing from Europe (London)

All of these are British Airways Avios redemptions departing London Heathrow. Availability is strong across most routes right now - especially for early May.

✈️ London to New York (JFK/LHR-JFK)

33,000 Avios one-way - Economy - High availability

Available: May 1, 2, 3, 4 (peak pricing) and May 5 (off-peak). Great option for a quick transatlantic hop.

✈️ London to Boston (LHR-BOS)

33,000 Avios one-way - Economy - High availability

Available: May 1-5 with strong seats. One of the shorter transatlantic routes and a good use of Avios at this price.

✈️ London to Chicago (LHR-ORD)

27,500 Avios one-way - Economy - High availability

Available: May 3-8 and May 12. This is off-peak pricing - a great rate for Chicago. Dates from May 7-8 and May 12 are all off-peak too.

✈️ London to Los Angeles (LHR-LAX)

38,500 Avios one-way - Economy - High availability

Available: May 1-5. May 5-7 drop to off-peak (33,000 Avios) if you can be flexible.

✈️ London to Miami (LHR-MIA)

38,500 Avios one-way - Economy - High availability

Available: May 1-5 with strong seats. Peak pricing, but solid value for a sunny escape.

✈️ London to San Francisco (LHR-SFO)

38,500 Avios one-way - Economy - High availability

Available: May 1-6 with good seats. Peak pricing on the early dates, dropping off-peak from May 5 onward.

✈️ London to Hong Kong (LHR-HKG)

38,500 Avios one-way - Economy - Medium availability

Available: May 7, 12, 13, 18 (all off-peak pricing). Fantastic value for a long-haul to Hong Kong.

✈️ London to Singapore (LHR-SIN)

49,500 Avios one-way - Economy - Low availability

Available: May 19, May 24, May 28. These are scattered dates so check quickly - low availability means seats won't last.

🏨 Featured Hotel Redemptions

Two standouts from this week's hotel list before we get to the full breakdown in the premium section:

Hyatt House at Anaheim Resort / Convention Center

~15,000 World of Hyatt points per night - 8.5 cents per point value - Anaheim, CA

That 8.5cpp value is genuinely exceptional. Hyatt points are hard to earn in large quantities, so when a property delivers this kind of return, it's worth prioritising. Great for families visiting Disneyland too.

Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa - Grand Cayman

~70,000 IHG points per night - 7.4 cents per point value - Grand Cayman

IHG points don't always get this kind of value - 7.4cpp at a Kimpton beach resort is a headline number. And with the Chase Ultimate Rewards to IHG 70% transfer bonus running until April 30, you can top up your IHG account cheaply right now.
